Vacuum sealing the year...

One never knows what a year holds. Will there be gaps left, chinks in the armor, holes in the wall where the enemy can break through? Do we feel vulnerable? Will creditors, debt collectors, the IRS hassle us? Is there a niggling feeling that orders will dry up over the holidays unless we stay on the job? Is there worry, anxiety, concern about the year, or fear? This morning I was...

The Quail are Jumping...

Weeks ago I looked up the driveway and saw a pair of quail, followed by their young family. The father perched on the gatepost, casting a watchful eye on the road while the chick crossed in a scurry. Next step: flying lessons! There did not seem to by any quailish communications. Dad stepped to the edge and jumped. After a little to-ing and fro-ing, the little ones followed suit. It...

On the way to work...

One of my lasting memories from a recent trip was a dead body lying between the lanes of traffic. “Isn’t that a dead body?” I asked. The driver just shrugged. The next thing I saw was a minivan full of commuters singing and clapping. I asked myself, ‘Didn’t they see the dead man?’ Funny how one’s eye can get used to things in one’s own...

Timeline of finance...

Spent some hours this morning constructing a timeline of Capital models from Adam through today. Interesting stuff! Fascinating to see the evolution of capital in different eras: from individual, to household, to nation, to kingdom… and so on. Everyone wants an 11th P...

Now this email is a must more than ever. This is a word of thanks, appreciation and revelation. Thanks: Thanks to the Lord for His plan for me to go through this program and to get to know all of you. He did it before and here He is doing it again....

What’s the value of a changed life...

Many years ago Peter Drucker said that the product of a not-for-profit is a changed life. What happens when businesses are having an increasing societal role, and not-for-profits are running more like businesses? Do non-profits have more of an emphasis on real value for money? And how do businesses place a valuation on the life-change that they bring about? If they do so through a...

The modern day garage...

I have this sneaking suspicion that I am about to create something I will have to clean up again and again. I already have so  many places where cool ideas have grown cold, reduced to zeros and ones. Will this be the burner that keeps all of that stuff warm, simmering away until it organically seeps from the pot of my mind into a more useful mold or three? We shall...
