About

My name is Brett Johnson. Lyn and I live in Northern California, overlooking Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. It is easy to philosophize from up on this hill; it is harder to capture and share one’s thinking meaningfully. Hence, the blog.

A bit about me: Lyn and I founded The Institute for Innovation, Integration & Impact in 1996. The Institute has consulted to a wide range of businesses, universities, governments and NGOs. www.inst.net has more info.

I am also the author of three books, and have some new books in the pipeline. Convergence (How to integrate your Career, Community, Creativity and Calling) was my first book which came out in 2000. It is now in a 2nd edition. i-Operations: How the Internet can transform your Operating Model was co-authored with Gary Daichendt, then the SVP of Worldwide Ops at Cisco. The third book was LEMON Leadership, which is heading into its 2nd edition soon. There is also an Africa version published by STRUIK.

My passion: The abolition of dichotomy.

My purpose: Helping leaders and corporations discover and walk out their life’s calling.

The Institute’s tag line: Repurposing Business–Transforming Society.

Lyn and I grew  up in South Africa where she was a schoolteacher, and I worked for Price Waterhouse. They transfered me to San Francisco in 1986 and we have been here ever since. I left PW (now PWC) and was a partner at KPMG Peat Marwick for several years before moving to CSC. When there I heard a clear voice telling me, “Start an institute.” That began a journey that has resulted in hundreds of transformed companies, and even more businesspeople using their business skills to change the world.

We have three grown children: Fay (www.fayjohnson.com), James (married and in the Air Force), and Davey (studying at Chapman University near L.A.)
